Registering Your Child in Standard One

In Malaysia, when your child reaches age 7, it is compulsory for the child to be schooled.  Registration for children begins when your child is 5 years old.  Every year, schools open for Standard One registration on 1st March (except for weekends and public holidays).  However, this event is rarely announced as there will be swarm of parents clambering to the school office to register their children.

Here’s a tip to all parents – check with the school a week before March 1st.  Sometimes, schools quietly open for registration early in order to reduce the mad rush.  Have the following documents in hand when you go to the school office:

  1. Husband and wife MyKad
  2. Wedding certificate
  3. Child’s birth certificate
  4. Electricity Bill
  5. Local council bill
  6. Water bill
  7. A set of photocopied documents above
  8. Self addressed envelope (4″ x 9″) with 50 sen stamp
