I just went through the same headache. Child number 2 coming our way in a month and our '97 Cavalier with a broken seat, a broken trunk, and no AC just wan't going to cut it.

We made our decision in under a week. Here's some things I sugges:

- Narrow the playing field as quickly as you can. There are just too many cars with similar attributes to go view, test drive, and negotiate with dealers.

- Always talk to the salesperson and get a sense of what they're opening prices will look like. After talking to 2-3 dealers (most by phone or email) we were able to find out what dealers, makes, and models could be negotiated. Also, get a sense of their inventory. You can get deals on cars/colors that they have...

- It's easy to walk away from a salesperson. But have in mind what deal would make you say yes.

Good luck
