Fish Bone in the Throat
I am away in another town and had dinner with a friend. We had a pork dish, two veggies, one lala and one fish. Unfortunately for me, a fish bone got lodged in my throat. I tried almost everything, water to flush it down (didn’t work), a big mouthful of rice (didn’t work) and a big piece of bread (didn’t work either).
At first, it felt more like a discomfort rather than pain. So, I opt to return to the hotel than to the doctor. I sat on my laptop and surfed away on the Internet. 30 minutes later, the little discomfort felt more and more painful up to a point that whenever I coughed, blood is present. I could also feel a bit of swelling in my throat. It was at that point that I decided to look for a doctor.
I drove around town looking for doctor at this hour and finally after 25 minutes, I saw a clinic half shut. I quickly parked my car and jumped into the clinic. I was lucky as the doctor was around. After a short registration, the doctor checked my throat and indeed could see a fish bone lodged not deep in my throat. He took a curved tweezer and easily removed the pesky bone.
The fish bone was almost an inch long. No wonder swallowing rice or bread did not help at all. Note to self, fish bone must be removed as soon as possible to minimise the risk of infection and swelling.
