For many of us, tour companies are a godsend during our vacations. However, as I have discovered, driving is probably the best way to visit Hawaii. All you have to do instead of contacting a tour company is to call any Hawaii car rental company for a quotation. Last I checked, it would cost in a range of US$160 to US$180 to rent a mid-sized car for 5 whole days.

Driving provides you with the freedom to pace your own vacation and you can drive to any spot in Hawaii, stopping as often or as long as you desire. Now, if you try that while with a tour company, you will probably be left behind.

If you have family members traveling with you, it makes more sense to travel in a car as it is cheaper than having all of them paying tour fees. If you have a couple of travel companion with you, it’s a great way to reduce your holiday expenses by splitting the car rental bill.

For the slightly more adventurous, grab yourself a Hawaii AA Street Map and venture off the beaten tracks. Alternatively, grab your GPS enabled BlackBerry and start your adventure.

If you have not realised, magazines are great when it comes to traveling. Whenever I travel, at the airport, I will buy myself a magazine and read it on the flight. It’s a great way to kill time if you ask me. Some airlines provides magazines and the ones that I usually see are those of Golf Digest, Asiaweek, Time Magazine and Her World. With close to 400 passengers on board, rest assure that the magazines provided will be insufficient.

Whether I’m on the bus, the train, the aeroplane or whenever I’m waiting, my magazine helps me kill time. It’s easy to carry along and when I’m done with it, I simply throw it into the trashcan and buy me a new copy.

I know some who prefer to carry along novels or big thick books to read. Frankly, I find novels expensive, too thick, cumbersome to carry, lack of fresh news and worst of all, not disposable. No one throws away a novel after finishing it.  So, the next time you need to kill some time, try a magazine.

How would you like an all paid work week in Hong Kong? How would you like an all paid 2 work weeks in United States of America? How do you fancy an all inclusive holidays to Corfu, Greece? Yes, all these are happening to my close friends. All three of them! All of them are flying business class and all of them are leaving the country in about the same time. Seriously, all these great stuff happens to only people around me. Why not me?

Somehow, these kind of luck opportunities never ever knock on my door. The only time I flew business class was when I upgraded myself by paying it using my own money. All my overseas travel have been self funded and you are laughing at how pathetic I am.

Now, the luckiest person amongst the 3 of them is the one who got the free trip to Corfu. Apparently, it was an incentive for her when she achieved her sales quota for her organisation. Since she’s got the free trip, maybe she doesn’t mind me tagging along. After all, it’ll only cost me an air ticket and her nothing.  Time to get ready for a vacation!
