Vacation During School Holidays

School holidays is just around the corner and my kid have been bugging me to bring him on a vacation. I was thinking more of Australia and the Gold Coast in particular because of the more activities that will wear my kid down. Furthermore, I anticipate that there will be no problem with Gold Coast accommodation as it is found in abundance (compared to when we holidayed in the Grampian).

I suppose Gold Coast is bustling with activities for tourist ranging from beaches, surfing (on waves, not Internet) to extreme sports of jet boats. Not forgotten are activities for kids at theme parks such as Sea World, Water World, Movie World, Dreamland and not forgetting the many parks available to exhaust the kid. For the adults, we can go for less adrenalin-pumping activities such as visiting wineries, play a little golf and enjoy some scenic flights on the helicopter.

Unfortunately, after all that planning and thinking and checking and double-checking, Gold Coast didn’t go down well with my kid as he wants to go to England to visit his friends. Boy, kids nowadays. This is one tough nut to crack. I tried to reason out that time and cost is not favouring us compared to having a vacation somewhere near Malaysia. Didn’t work. I think I’m going to compromise with him by holidaying locally. Malaysia in fact has loads to offer especially in smaller towns and farther destinations. I’m thinking of Kuching; a nice idyllic city in East Malaysia.

Cutty Sark Goes Up in Flames

Cutty SarkIt is indeed a sad day today as Cutty Sark goes up in flames. Cutty Sark’s life began in 1869 as a tea clipper. Born off Scott & Linton at Dumbarton, Scotland, Cutty Sark was used for tea trades between London and China. The ship has since retired from sea faring but continue to open its doors and hull to tourists at Greenwich. Cutty Sark is currently undergoing restoration until the dreadful fire today; now, she is really retired. What a loss to a natural historical monument.

Come to think of it, why is that humans try to preserve its past? Why are these historical “things” important? Many would “mourn” the death of Cutty Sark but have we done enough to appreciate her when she was alive?

Likewise, we should hold dear to what we have presently. Our families, our colleagues, our environment, our lives. Break away from the clutches of procrastination and criticality. Learn to live life with tolerance and leeway. Do things to the best of our abilities, capabilities and ethically. Don’t wait until fire catches up to you.

Curious About Your Visitors

Many webmasters are obsessed with their websites’ traffic and some are crazy after Google’s PageRank and some are nuts about both.  It’s not that these does not matter to me but if I’m into traffic, I can buy website traffic to boost the numbers.  In fact, I’m really interested in finding out who, from where visit my blog.

As I’ve wrote in the past, amoswong.com has got visitors from Guam.  Isn’t it interesting?  The fact that the visitor came from Guam made me wanna read up about the country.  Other things that interest me are comments where visitor make with a URL to their handiwork or blogs.  I will definitely visit their site, have a look what they write about, how some of them take photos of their surroundings, how they customize their site and such.

If you noticed, there is a little button that says “GeoVisitors” right at the bottom of this blog.  Clicking on this button will display the various visitors and where they came from.  Pretty neat, eh?  I click on that button every single day.
