Paris in a Post

Stemming from the post on integrating SimpleViewer and Wordpress, this post is written entirely to test the possibility of incorporating SimpleViewer in a blog post rather than a Wordpress page.

Eureka! It works! Here’s how it’s done…

To incorporate SimpleViewer in a post, follow the instructions here and instead of creating a page, create a post with the tags shown in the image below. Have fun! :)

How to Integrate SimpleViewer with WordPress

The moment I laid eyes on SimpleViewer, I fell in love with it. I told myself that I really need to integrate SimpleViewer with this blog. It has come to my understanding that there are some challenges to it. This is the recipe to integrate Wordpress and SimpleViewer.

Ingredients (what I used here):
[1] Wordpress 2.0
[2] SimpleViewer 1.7
[3] Kimili Flash Embed Plugin

Laying the Foundation:
[1] Download Kimili Flash Embed Plugin
[2] Extract the zipped file and locate the file called “kml_flashembed.php
[3] Upload the “kml_flashembed.php” file to your Wordpress folder “wp-content/plugins/
[4] Activate the Kimili Flash Embed plugin by clicking on the “Activate” word.

Prepare SimpleViewer:
It is assumed that you have some knowledge about using SimpleViewer. If not, click here.
For this example, I have set my SimpleViewer images to public_html/gallery/paris/ folder.

[1] Update SimpleViewer’s imageData.xml file with the relevant information (sample in the image below). Note that I changed the bgcolor, navPosition, title, imagePath and thumbPath attributes from the default settings. Note also that I included the full domain path for imagePath and thumbPath attributes.

[2] Upload the entire SimpleViewer (including images and thumbnails) to public_html/gallery/paris/ folder.

Final Steps:
[1] Create a page in WordPress giving any title that you desire
[2] Enter these codes to display SimpleViewer (refer image below). Note that I included the full domain path for the movie and xmlDataPath attributes.

[3] Time to test and voila! Done!

Quick Update:
I was really having trouble with my Scotland gallery. I checked, double checked, triple checked but my Scottish images simply would not display. Finally, I found the problem. It seems that the path may be too long.Originally, I was using http://www.amoswong.com/gallery/scotland/ as my path (that failed). When I shortened the path to http://www.amoswong.com/gallery/scot/, it worked!!

Solution to Paypal Error Message 5302

Paypal Error Message 5302I have been cracking my head and fingers on my Paypal Subscription button. My struggle began when I wanted to add a Paypal subscription button to one of my blogs (selling advertisement space). After entering all the required information and generating the button, I added the Paypal codes into my blog without any problems.

Testing the button was a different matter altogether. The moment I clicked on the subscription button, my browser displayed a Paypal Abort page stating:

We are sorry, we are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later. If this error occurred while making a payment, avoid duplicate payments by checking your Account Overview before resending a payment.
Message 5302

I found it strange and thought that I made a mistake during the button generation. I tried three more times; each time, paying careful attention to the data that I enter or options I chose. Each time, the same error appeared when I tested it.

Frustrated, I googled around and was surprise to find that many Paypal users are facing the same issue with their Buy Now buttons, their Donations button and Subscription buttons. For those of you who are facing this similar problem, here’s the solution.

When you create your buttons, there is a section called Security Settings. Instead of selecting Yes to encrypt your button, select No (refer graphics below). This simple change solved my problems and my visitors can now purchase advertisement space on my blog.

Paypal Error 5302

Good luck!
