I was introduced to Murphy’s Law and Parkinson’s Law this morning as I sit through my Project Management class.
Murphy’s Law
If something can go wrong, it will
Parkinson’s Law
Work expands to fill the time allowed
In my humble opinion, Murphy’s Law is the root of all “kiasu-ism” (fear of losing/failure). If you notice in your life or the life of your close friends/colleagues, you can detect that sometimes, simply problems are exaggerated and made complicated. If your superior have this “disease”, you are headed for a tough time. People who subscribes to Murphy’s Law simply puts it “We can never be too careful“.
Parkinson’s Law on the other hand is essentially procrastination. Aren’t humans interesting to study? Just take a look at the Malaysian MyKad application deadline. Even by incentivizing applicants and imposing a fine after the deadline, Malaysians continue to procrastinate.

The Million Dollar Hompage is poised to complete it’s final 1,000 pixels of advertisements. This successful unique idea of advertising has seen the proliferation of similar sites. Some are direct copycats while the others try to be different but employ the same concept.
Webmasters have generally reported a gain in traffic to their sites (obviously, the bigger your ad, the better the traffic). With that, I decided to try it out. My target was to seek out a pixel advertisement for blogs; time to promote AmosWong.com. My search led me to Million Friend Hompage; a site that donates 50% of it’s proceeds to the Red Cross.
I signed up, slap an image and within a few hours, the ad appeared. Look me up on that page. I’m a sherry cocktail.

The Google Earth application is now available directly from Google themselves. You may begin downloading your copy from http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html. A quick rundown of what Google Earth is all about:
It’s a globe that sits inside your PC. You point and zoom to anyplace on the planet that you want to explore. Satellite images and local facts zoom into view. Tap into Google search to show local points of interest and facts. Zoom to a specific address to check out an apartment or hotel. View driving directions and even fly along your route.
From my experience using Google Earth, it’s a bandwidth sucker and requires some pretty good hardware resources. Here are some of the minimum requirements Google mentioned (note, these are MINIMUM requirements):
- OS: Windows 2000, XP, or Mac OS X (10.4)
- CPU: 600MHz
- Free Hard Disk Space: 400 MB
- System RAM: 128 MB
- Video RAM: 16 MB
- Screen Resolution: 1024×768, 32-bit color
- Internet: 128 Kbps (”broadband”)
Even with these requirements, Google Earth is a joy to use. Travel the world NOW!
